Biography

Jiri Vodicka belongs to the most important Czech violinists.

In his early youth, he gained much attention by winning many competitions, e.g. Kocian Violin Competition, Prague Junior Note Competition, Cirenie Talentov Competition all in the year 2000. In 2002, he won the 1st prize in the International Violin Competition in Hradec Kralove together with a special prize for the best participant in the Master classes of Maestro Vaclav Hudecek. In 2004, he won the 1st prize in the International Violin Competition Louis Spohr in Weimar, Germany.

He was accepted at the Institute of Arts University in Ostrava when he was only 14 years old, becoming a student of the renowned teacher Zdenek Gola. He finished his studies at 19, receiving the MA degree. Since then, he has concentrated on his career as a soloist. He collaborates with major Czech pianists - Martin Kasik, Adam Skoumal and Lukas Vondracek.

Mr. Vodicka became a permanent soloist with the Janacek Philharmonia Orchestra, and performs often with them at home and abroad. He performs regularly with the Prague Philharmonia, Prague Symphony FOK, Czech Chamber Orchestra, National Theatre Prague Chamber Orchestra and others. Many of his concerts were recorded by the Czech Radio and Television.
In 2008, Jiri Vodicka entered the European audition for the world renowned Young Concert Artist Competition in Leipzig, Germany. He won the first prize in competition with several hundred instrumentalists from around the world, and he passed to the final round in New York in 2009, where he won 2nd prize.

Mr. Vodicka is often a guest of prestigious music festivals, e.g. Prague Spring, Young Prague, Grand Festival of China, Hohenloher Kultursommer, Choriner Musiksommer. He will play at the opening concert of the Musiktage Salzgitter Festival, he will be the soloist in the Prague Symphony Orchestra series under the baton of Maestro Jiri Kout, and he will also perform with the Wuhan Philharmonia with Maestro James Liu Peng.

Besides his activities as a soloist, he is also interested in chamber music, as a member of a piano trio with the pianist Lukas Vondracek and cellist Petr Nouzovsky. He joined the faculty of Prague Conservatoire in 2009.
