Biography

The chamber orchestra "Camerata Bohemica Prague" that was founded in 2002 is one of the more recent young professional institutions on the music scene in the Czech Republic not only in view of the date when it was created, but also because of the age of its members.
The strings, which form the main part of the orchestra, are made up of selected young professionals, most of whom are also members of other chamber music groups (quartets, trios, etc.).
Having such good potential, the orchestra soon developed beyond what its founder, the award-winning cellist Tomas Strasil, had originally intended, namely functioning as an accompaniment for his own solo performances.
The musical and technical maturity of the individual players, along with their mutual interest in discovering lesser known compositions, has had a positive influence on the orchestra’s repertoire, and thus also on the dramaturgy of its concert programmes. The baroque and classical pieces that were favoured first of all were soon supplemented with 19th and 20th century compositions, and contemporary music written especially to the orders of the artistic directors was soon added as well.
A turning point was reached when contact was made with the conductor Gudni A. Emilsson. As from 2005, this will be the basis for an effective and dynamic new cooperation.
After carrying out several joint artistic projects, a select chamber orchestra has been formed under its chief conductor Gudni A. Emilsson, that will be using its extended possibilities, innovative dramaturgical ideas and fresh spirit to achieve an important position. For 2005, it already has numerous invitations to give concerts in Germany, Luxembourg and Prague.
The Camerata Bohemica Prague under Gudni A. Emilsson is already one of the Czech Republic’s most interesting and ambitious musical institutions.
